a sure type thing <3
So in 2 weeks, Jess and I will be in Minneapolis at our hotel...relaxing. I can't wait. I need some time away to refresh. It'll be our 6 month married-versary this month...

How I Met Your Mother is hilarious.

I miss Jess on the weekends when she's not home.

Today was my Monday...can't wait for my Friday.

I miss Jess when she's at work. Terribly.

In other news, I have work tomorrow through Tuesday. I was supposed to be there this morning but congestion and coughing and upper-respiratory yuckiness kept me away. I slept the whole day away in an effort to feel better...no one can cover me when I work weekends. And Jess left me to go to work and Tegan's laying in her place in bed trying to be her I think but it's not working.

We went to Nebraska this week which is probably why I don't feel well. That state always makes me stuffy and runny and horrible-feeling.

Oh well. Off to bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

[my ears are happy... |hysteric (acoustic)//yeahyeahyeahs!]

So Jess & I have been married for a month...I still can't believe it. I have to keep reminding myself. It's crazy. I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be married at 24...insane. It hasn't really changed us. We still cuddle in bed and watch TV on DVD and dance at shows and buy vegan cookbooks and make yummy food.

We love each other and although I got a few very negative and offensive messages on my online stuff, mostly reaction was positive. We're having a reception this summer for our extended framily that didn't get to come for the actual wedding (which took about 10 minutes). If they want to come. Our judge was amazing, kind, caring, respectful. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

I really hope everything works out in Iowa and this right that has been given doesn't get taken away. Equality is intrinsic in America. I know the fight won't be over for a really really long time, but I can't help but feel as though we are getting closer. As for the rest of America, as goes Iowa so goes the country hopefully in this case.

In other news, Jess's 23rd birthday is Monday, so tomorrow we're having a fun day of movies and dinner with a few friends. We'll be viewing DRAG ME TO HELL and UP. I'm excited about both...but I cannot pretend I am not aflutter with excitement over Sam Raimi's return to horror...

We went to the Santigold...Santogold show last night and she KILLED it. As did her opening acts. It was the first time in a LONG ASS time that I thoroughly enjoyed EVERY band at a concert.

gay marriage killed the dinosaurs...rawr... [Apr. 10th, 2009|07:53 pm]

[my ears are happy... |heads will roll//yeah yeah yeahs]

So Jess & I are getting married April 27th at 4pm at the Polk County Courthouse. It'll just be us and a few of our FRAMILY (friends that are like family to us), and my mom. It's been a weird couple of days. It seems each day there are different things that happen in this battle of right versus wrong, good versus evil (forgive me for being melodramatic). The other day there was a group that tried to bring the constitutional amendment to a vote in not one, but TWO ways. The first was deemed out of order, because all these people started screaming and yelling and looking like assholes. The second failed in procedural vote.

This whole thing just makes me sick to my stomach. I cannot believe that there are such ignorant, narrow-minded people in the world. And it makes me wonder how they've gotten through life up until this point. This is not a religious issue. This is a CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE. There is a separation of church and state in this country, no matter how much the religious right wants us to ignore that. As for the worry that churches will be REQUIRED to marry same-sex couples? NOT in the LEAST bit true. Churches have the same constitutional protection. Read Boy Scouts of America v Dale...they were treated as the minority, the subjugated group in this case. Churches would be subject to that same ruling. Therefore, no church/synagogue/mosque has to marry ANYONE that they don't want to. Not to mention...WHY on EARTH would same-sex couples want to be married in a church that doesn't approve of and in fact, openly hates them?

I've heard everything in the last few days, like "gayness" is passed through the mother, and that we need to develop a test and selectively abort fetuses that don't pass...doesn't that contradict the whole "pro-life" mantra that most of these people preach? And if "gayness" is passed on through genetics or taught to children, where the hell did I learn it from? What about the claim that schools will teach that gay marriage is "okay"? Well, I never remember my teachers EVER teaching me about marriage, period. In fact, I remember learning a lot about tolerance and acceptance of people different from myself.

Let's face it. 50 years ago if the Supreme Court made a decision to allow interracial couples to marry and people were SOOO upset about it that they voted on a constitutional amendment...you can't tell me that it wouldn't have passed. THE MAJORITY CANNOT VOTE ON THE RIGHTS OF A MINORITY...it's a LEGAL issue, not a CHURCH issue.

Those who argue that the word marriage was meant for religious "one man, one woman" couples? Well I'm sorry but now that the word marriage is so integrated into our legal language. When you apply for a license to get married it's a MARRIAGE LICENSE...when you get divorced it isn't a dissolution of "partnership", it's a dissolution of MARRIAGE. And to give us civil unions instead...I mean I wouldn't complain about it if they took the right to marry away, but separate is INHERENTLY unequal. Calling it something else...MAKES IT UNEQUAL.

Phew...sorry for the rant. I just want some people to understand how silly they are.

[my ears are happy... |hysteric//yeah yeah yeahs]

So much has happened in the last few days I still find myself trying to wrap my head around it all. Jess & I headed to Minneapolis on Wednesday...we checked into our hotel around 3:30. We went to the Ladytron/Faint show Thursday...and left early. Ladytron sounded AMAZING...the fellow concert-goers...did not. They kept talking over the music and every single one of them had multiple drinks in hand. We got a text from our friend Adam that the Iowa Supreme Court would be announcing their decision in the same-sex marriage case the next day...Friday, as in the day BEFORE we were coming home. Needless to say we were really excited and disappointed at the same time. I really wish we would have been here.

Anyway, the outcome is awesome and nothing less than I would have expected from our Supreme Court...because I did my research and felt extremely confident about the justices and their track records. So we're getting married the day they finalize the ruling and everything: April 24th. Neither one of us thought we'd ever get married in April, that's for sure. But it'll be at City Hall. Jess will be calling judges tomorrow and making an appointment. We aren't really inviting any family except for my mom and maybe Jess's mom. We want our friends to come though, because our friends really are our family more than anyone else. No one in my extended family understands or supports me, but they will get announcements mailed to their houses. We'll eventually have a party/reception to celebrate with everyone and details will be forthcoming about that.

In other news, I finally got my hands on the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album and it's AMAZING...I tell you the first inkling of their tour schedule I will be buying tickets to SOMEWHERE. I swear it's the best album of the year so far and probably will be when all is said and done. They really stuck their fingers in the light socket for this one and they deserve every bit of acclaim and recognition they get. So everyone get out and buy it!

10 facts... [Mar. 14th, 2009|08:10 pm]

[my ears are happy... |zero//yeah yeah yeahs]

1. Animal Crossing: Wild World is my new favorite pastime. Seriously. It's adorable. And anyone who says that I'm too grown up for it can eat it.

2. Osteoarthritis sucks. I got on the internet to find out more about it and stumbled upon message boards filled with people who are taking NSAIDS that will probably give them stomach ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding. And I realized that I have an AMAZING doctor. He knows exactly what not to put me on and he has no problem getting into arguments with my insurance to get them to cover said medication.

3. I've also been diagnosed with adult ADHD and have been put on appropriate medication. My doctor also got into it with my insurance company to get that covered for me. Seriously, he rules so hardcore.

4. Jess & I will be going to Ladytron & The Faint in Minneapolis April 2nd. I am extremely excited about this and cannot wait to get back to Minneapolis for a while. It's a place I could completely call home.

5. We are undecided about the status of our apartment. We'll either be moving May 1st or signing a 6 month lease to stay and moving November 1st. Neither of us is very gung-ho about the latter option, but it's the most feasible at this point.

6. Of late I've become obsessed with being outside. I can't wait for the weather to get nicer so I can get out and walk around.

7. NEW YEAH YEAH YEAHS IS FUCKING AMAZING...I can't wait to buy the hard copy.

8. A dress I bought last summer is now loose on me. Which makes me a little sad because I really like it.

9. I'm contemplating taking a store when my year of floating is up in May. I've got a few in mind, that's for sure.

10. I bought Let The Right One In and Milk on DVD this week...my two favorite movies of last year. Amazing.
